How often should you clean your windows in the East Bay?

By Devan Towslee, owner of Optic Window Co. Updated October 2026.

Quick answer

Most homes in San Ramon and the Tri Valley look their best with window cleaning twice a year, in spring and again in fall. Homes near construction, busy roads or sprinklers usually need it quarterly, and storefronts look best every two to four weeks.

Why spring and fall

The East Bay has long dry summers that coat glass with dust, and the first rains of fall leave spots as that dust washes down. A spring cleaning clears winter grime, and a fall cleaning resets the glass after summer.

When to clean more often

  • Sprinklers that hit the glass, which leave hard water spots
  • New construction nearby
  • Homes on busy roads or near open hillsides
  • Pets and kids at sliding doors
  • Storefronts, where fingerprints and street dust build up weekly

Matching a plan to how often

Twice a year fits most homes and saves 10 percent every visit. Quarterly fits busy homes and saves 20 percent with free screens. Monthly keeps outside glass fresh all year and saves 25 percent.
